Ancient games: Hnefetafl

Hnefetafl

Hnefetafi is a board game a bit similar to Tablut. The attackers are in group of 6 at each side of the board, having a total of 24 pieces. And the defenders are arranged around the king which is placed in the centre of the board. The objective for the attackers is to capture the king to secure the win. For the defenders, their objective is to get their king to one of the four corner on the board to win. The attacking teams makes the first move.

Each pieces all move in the same direction horizontal and vertical, but can not move diagonally. The pieces can move one or more squares on the board till another pieces is blocking their way. The king starts at the centre square but no other pieces can move on it other than mover over it.

To take the other player pieces which is called "sandwich" you have to capture them by placing one of the piece to the side of the player pieces. once the king has moved that centre square can be used to capture the enemy pieces.
