Defining games: Caillois' terminology

Caillois' terminology

Paidia means where the player plays for fun and when strange things appear which caused by the player for doing actions correcting by themself in things like glitching, destroyed and exploring. A game which explain this example is dead rising 3. It gives players opportunity to do exactly what they want to do during in a zombie break out event. Allowing them to choose the same event or choose a different one to move on to the next level

A ludus means the player plays by the set of rules and it allow the game to go one way depending the designer choice. An example for this has to be Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. It sets the player in the storyline to something that they have no choice but to accept the path they are given.The only time they are given a choice is the way they approach missions but giving them one outcome.
